Maps are far from neutral records of space.
The process of mapping is always subjected to a dual representation, tinged with the prejudices of our rendering, and affected by the collective memory of how we record space. From documentaries about the visualization of family migration to experimental films that question our interaction with cities and movement within space, this session provides us with a unique perspective on how the human element emerges within the process of mapping.
On Friday 11 September, Jules van Hulst (Rituals We Wish We Had) will join us for a Q&A.
Duration
87 min.
Here and There is an essay film that studies what being at home means.
Cities (Territories & Occupation) thematize "the city" divided into districts, neighborhoods, zones and domains, marked by inner-city borderlines.
Repurposing and manipulating footage from two classic films and the filmmaker’s own personal footage.
In a multi screen collage of visual experiments a longing for tribal habits is explored. Rituals We Wish We Had is a film about being homesick for a place you have never been.
