Director Biography
Réka Bucsi is a Hungarian animation filmmaker. She graduated with a Master's degree in animation filmmaking from Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design in Budapest. Her graduation filmSYMPHONY NO. 42 was shortlisted for the Oscars in 2014 for Best Animated Short.Her personal films were screened at various film festivals all over the world, including all three of them premiering at the Berlinale Shorts Competition (2014, 2016, 2018) and further playing in competition twice at Sundance (2015, 2016), Ottawa, Annecy, AFI Fest, BFI London Film Festival and twice at SXSW (2016,2018). Réka’s short film LOVE was nominated for Best Short Film at the European Film Awards in2017.Her film SOLAR WALK won the Audi Short Film Award at the Berlinale 2018, the Grand Prix at OttawaInternational Animation Festival 2018, was nominated at the Annie Awards for Best Short Subject2019 and is now part of The Criterion Channel.She served on 15 international film festival juries, including the Berlinale Shorts International Jury2020, Animafest Zagreb 2020 and Sarajevo Film Festival 2022. GLAS Animation Festival, Animateka Festival and London International Animation Festival screened retrospective programs of her work. She was a speaker at Pictoplasma both in Berlin and NYC, Pratt Institute NYC, The New School NYC,FMX Conference on Animation Germany and a guest teacher at California Institute of the Arts. Réka’s clients include Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, Netflix, HULU, Vimeo and FXNetworks. Réka became a European Film Academy member in 2017 and an AMPAS member in 2021.
