Lies, an eldery widow from the Dutch East Indies, has been living in the Netherlands ever since Indonesia became independent. She talks to her son on the phone on a daily basis, but doesn't want to burden him with the traumas of post-colonial turmoil that still haunt her every night.
Raised in Amsterdam, director Kim Kokosky Deforchaux first studied History at the University of Amsterdam, before he decided on following his childhood dream of becoming a filmmaker. He graduated from the Netherlands Film Academy as a screenwriter in 2017, after which he wrote several short and feature length screenplays for other directors. During this time he also wrote, produced and directed his short film Ik, Moordenaar (2019), which allowed him to receive funding for his next short film, Hantu (2021). He hopes to start working on his feature debut soon.
