Birdland

BIRDLAND is an intimate and moving film about a daughter and a mother in a trailerpark on the outskirts of a city. The heart of the film is Skye, the tough 8-year-old daughter of Joy. Skye desires to be older and more mature, just like her mother.

Director Biography

Ashgan El-Hamus(pronounced: Ash Gen EL Hæms) graduated as a screen writer at The Netherlands Film Academy in 2017. In her graduation year she also co-directed the student film HABIBA. After that she followed a course in directing at LUCA, School of Arts in Brussels and wrote two seasons of the Dutch version of the TV-show SKAM. Since October 2019 Ashgan has a bi-weekly column for the national newspaper Het Parool. Currently she’s working as a writer on the feature film debut of director Bobbie Koek, as well as developing new film projects as a director. Birdland is her debut as a director.
