Leiden Shorts is currently looking to fill the following volunteer positions:


We are looking for Junior Programmers for circa 8-16 h/w | Closing date: 07-11-2020

The programming team will consist of the general director, the artistic director, the head programmer and several junior programmers. Together with the reviewing team, they watch approximately 300 short films each. This is necessary due to the way in which our programme is put together. We do not curate per genre nor per country of origin, but thematically. Sessions are developed according to the formal qualities and/or content/message of the films we receive every edition. 

Through this vacancy we want to diversify our team of young professionals. We are looking for passionate film lovers with a critical mindset, who are not afraid to voice their opinion, while also keeping an open mind towards different or opposing perspectives.

We are looking for someone who:

∴ Loves (short) film and is ready to watch a great amount of hours worth of it

∴ Is comfortable with reviewing and evaluating films from any genre and from all over the world

∴ Has a broad cultural, social and political interest and is able to look beyond one narrative and make connections between different films

∴ Is able to articulate thoughts comprehensively and is not afraid to share them with the group

∴ Is committed to attend (bi-)weekly meetings with the rest of the programming team (from January onwards)

∴ Has a good eye for detail and an open heart for compelling narratives

∴ Works well even with tight deadlines and long hours

∴ Has a good command of English

∴ Does not mind giving introductions and hosting Q&A during the festival days

Prior work experience (in the field) is preferred but not necessary

We are looking for a PR officer for circa 4 h/w Closing date: 15-11-2020

The PR & Communication officer should be acquainted with the film festival and distribution industry in the Netherlands and/or be willing to do so. They should also be prone to (if not already in the possession of) set up a network within this. 

Our aim is firstly to fortify our presence in the city of Leiden. Within a few years our intention is to establish a presence on a national level. We are in particular interested in expanding our reach to those institutions, organizations and companies that can increase our visibility and promote our festival to target audiences around the Netherlands.

We are looking for someone who:

     ∴   Is able to develop and implement an effective communications strategy based on our audience.

     ∴  Responds to media inquiries and organizes interviews with (local) media.

     ∴  WIll organize press screenings, together with Management.

     ∴  Has excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; Dutch is a strong plus.

     ∴  Possesses the ability to think both strategically and creatively.

     ∴  Is acquainted with new media technologies and able to work with them.

     ∴  Has very good teamwork and problem-solving skills.

     ∴  Has strong networking skills and ideally an existing media network.

We’re always looking for new volunteers to join the team as reviewers, side events curators and for administrative and financial tasks.  No particular experience is required for these positions, as long as you are passionate (about film) motivated, independent and openminded.
