Volunteer general

The board of Leiden Shorts has vacancies for a

and a

(f/m/x | part-time | volunteer)

Leiden Shorts was established in 2009 as a platform for short films and has since grown into one of the most important short film events in the Netherlands. We envision Leiden Shorts as an alternative creative space for national and international filmmakers to showcase their distinct voices by exploring the power of the film medium. By considering cinema as a tool for social change, we aim to spotlight underrepresented voices and provide space for daring narratives and unconventional forms to take shape. The 16th festival edition will take place in multiple locations in Leiden in June 2024.

Do you want to contribute to providing space for daring narratives from around the globe through short films? Join us!

Currently Leiden Shorts (Stichting Cinemaclub Leiden)s looking for:

Both roles require a commitment of 1-2 hours per week on average.

The board currently has 4 members. In 2024 the term of two current board members is coming to an end. The festival is organised by a diverse and dedicated team of emerging film professionals working on a semi-volunteer basis, headed by a Festival Director. The involvement of the board is non-executive. Board members will support the growth and development of the dynamic and transforming organization and check the financial status of the festival.

About the board

The board of the foundation that runs Leiden Shorts (Stichting Cinemaclub Leiden) occupies itself primarily with supporting and advising the Festival Director and, indirectly, the rest of the festival team. Most of this support takes place during board meetings that happen every 5-6 weeks for an hour and a half. Board members also engage in occasional one-to-one support sessions for team members on topics they may have specialized knowledge in and attend (parts of) the festival. The board also controls, in particular financially, as it is bound by a set of formal and legal responsibilities each individual member has towards the foundation. We aim for board members to commit to a four-year tenure. As ‘ANBI-status’ organisation, Dutch law prohibits our board members from receiving any type of remuneration other than the reimbursement of expenses.

Please send your motivation letter to Myriam Vandenbroucke (Secretary to the board) via You can also reach out to Myriam in case you have questions. For these vacancies we maintain a rolling deadline, which means that they remain open until we have found suitable candidates.

You haven’t found something for you but you would still like to help…

We’re always looking for new volunteers to join the team as coordinators, side events curators, and administrative tasks.  No particular experience is required for these positions, as long as you are passionate (about film), motivated, independent and open-minded.

Feel free to reach out at any time via and specify VACANCY VOLUNTEER GENERAL in the subject of the email. Please include your CV and a short explanation of your interests and motivation for taking part in the festival.
